I was flipping through radio stations in my car today -- yes, I still prefer the radio to an iPod in the car, and all of a sudden I heard Pat Benatar's 1983 classic "Love is a Battlefield."

Immediately, I went into angry, empowered, singing-at-the-top-of-my-lungs-through-my-tears, breakup mode. At the end of the song, I realized, "Wait, I'm getting married. I'm done with breaking up for good!"

The video has nothing to do with breaking up, but it's absolutely hilarious... right down to the Thriller-esque dance scene at the end!

Feeling a bit nostalgic for all of the junk food, crying, and "Girl, he didn't deserve you anyway!" nights my friends and I have had through the years, I decided to free write a list of the breakup songs that I'll miss.

Some made me cry, others gave me strength, but they all helped heal those fresh wounds.

If your favorite's missing, feel free to add it!

Top Ten

10) If You Think You're Lonely Now -- Bobby Womack
9) Love is a Battlefield -- Pat Benatar
8) I Changed My Mind -- Keyshia Cole
7) Silly -- Deniece Williams
6) She Will be Loved -- Maroon 5
5) End of the Road -- Boyz II Men
4) I Will Survive -- Gloria Gaynor
3) Happy Ending -- Avril Lavigne
2) Love Changes -- Mother's Finest
1) Someday -- Mariah Carey

If this song doesn't get you over a breakup, then nothing will! (Side Note: Check out Mariah's mom jeans.)

Honorable Mentions (I had to list these alphabetically. Partly because I'm OCD, and partly because they're just all too good to try to rank!)

Again -- Janet Jackson
Again -- Lenny Kravitz

Before He Cheats -- Carrie Underwood
Big Pimpin' -- Jay-Z (lol, okay maybe this was more appropriate in my younger days)

I agree..."She Wiill Be Loved," both "Again"s, and "Is It A Crime" are all favorites.

Don't forget "Every Word", by Sade. Great post! I've realized that a large amount of songs on my ipod are breakup songs. They just seem so much more real and emotional, than say "Crank that artichoke" lol.
